Águila announces the signing of Darwin Cerén

El Águila announced on December 31, 2022 the signing of nothing more and nothing less than Darwin Cerén, who after nine years in the MLS, the elite soccer league of the United States, returns to national soccer to fulfill his “childhood dream” of play with the Migueleño team.

The signing of Darwin Cerén is the latest in a series of contracts for the Águila of Argentine coach Sebastián Bini, who will assume his second tournament in command of the nest.

“Welcome to the best in the world Darwin, happy new year to the best fans of ES. The best is yet to come,” said Águila president Alejandro González.

El Águila to date is the team that has made the most changes to its squad. The winds of change expect the team to help the team recover the prominence taken away by Alianza and FAS in recent years.

The addition of Darwin Cerén will add more hierarchy to a squad that already has interesting names such as the two goalkeepers Benji Villalobos and Rafa García.

“Happy to get where one day as a child I dreamed of playing. Now it is fulfilled not only for me but also for my family. Thank you Águila, for the trust,” Darwin Cerén wrote on his social networks.

Cerén was the last exported Salvadoran talent to achieve regularity in MLS soccer. The former Juventud Independiente player was at Orlando City (2014-2016), SJ Earthquakes (2016-2017), and the Houston Dynamo (2018-2022). The mixed midfielder brings with him 199 games with the three teams between the MLS league and the US Open Cup.

Apart from the incorporation of Darwin, the Eagle announced the signings of goalkeeper Raafa García (former Alianza goalkeeper), Melvin Cartagena, Bryan Paz, Juan Barahona and foreign reinforcements Francisco Campos, Flavio Scarone, and Daniel Pimienta.

The casualties reported by the feathered squad are Edgar Medrano, Jahir Barraza, Kevin Santamaría, Luis Acuña, Edwin Lazo, Martín García, Fabricio Alfaro, Tomás Granitto, Marlon Trejo and Romulo Villalobos.
