Alonso agrees with Stroll on sensations and will analyze Aston Martin improvements
After a short break in the calendar following the first treble of the season, Formula 1 is back with Hungarian Grand Prix 2024which Aston Martin had high hopes for due to the upgrades they were planning to introduce. Those in green were running the AMR24 upgrades in free practice, which saw them struggle to get ninth place from Lance Stroll in the morning and tenth from Fernando Alonso in the afternoon.
The Spaniard announced on the radio that they had a lot of work to do in the garage, and “Good luck” came from the Canadian compared to the new stuff versus the old stuff. Getting out of the car and speaking to the media, the Spaniard said: “It’s always nice to come back here. It’s a very specific track that doesn’t give you time to rest, one corner after another.”
“It was also very hot today, so conditions were tough for the mechanics and everyone in the stands,” he said, before turning to a very important topic for Sunday’s development. “Tyre degradation at these temperatures, and this track is quite high and extreme, so we’ll have to keep an eye on that.”
“Overall it was a good day and we need to learn more about the car and analyse all the data tonight,” he continued. “We will have to achieve everything and try to do our best on Saturday. It will be difficult to overtake in the race, so qualifying will be important.”
For his part, Lance Stroll added: “It’s nice to be back in Hungary. It’s a fun track with a number of different corners. I drove the Silverstone car this morning before I had the new parts for FP2 and we lost a bit of track time because of the red flag, but I felt good with the car.
“Fernando (Alonso) and I have similar feedback, we have a lot of data to work on tonight to optimise the car for qualifying tomorrow,” he said.
