AMD Strix Halo “FP11” APU will support up to 128GB of memory

Thanks to AMD Strix Halo APU leaks, it has been spotted with no less than 128 GB RAM. So far, leaks have only revealed configurations with 32 and 64 GB RAM common to the system. We now know that the most advanced configurations will be able to accommodate up to 128 GB of RAM.

This amount of memory is huge. Today, a modern gaming PC with a comfortable budget will add at least 32 GB RAM. If budget is an issue, at least we’re talking about 16 GB RAM. For the most demanding users who use their PC not only for games, but also for other tasks, 64 GB is suitable. That’s why the 128GB capacity is a massive configuration already designed for professional use. Not to mention dealing with AI workloads, which is a new gold mine for major chip manufacturers. This memory configuration is so large that even the upcoming Intel Lunar Lake does not support this amount of memory.

Here’s what we know about the AMD Strix Halo APU with up to 128GB of RAM.

AMD Strix Halo APUs will arrive with soldered LPDDR5x memory at 8533 MHz. This means that an APU with 32 and 64 GB of internal RAM will have a somewhat high price, not to mention a solution with at least 128 GB, which will already significantly increase the weight. We’ve already seen Apple take advantage of these developments with its Apple Silicon. You can’t expand RAMso if you want to ensure that the hardware doesn’t become obsolete quickly, you’ll have to think about the additional costs that will be associated with choosing the chip with the highest memory capacity.

Now it’s no surprise to see modders replacing memory chips. You lose your warranty, but you can upgrade your storage at much better prices. For some users, this will become a Plan B after the warranty expires or when they need more storage.

In addition to these memory capacities we will have up to 64 MB L3 cache on processors with 16-core configuration. For its part, the iGPU will have access to up to 32 MB endless cache. As for the memory, it is powered by its own LPDDR5x memory, which is shared. Using LPDDR5x memory will provide greater performance gains. for iGPU integrated compared to the slower DDR5 SO-DIMM solution.

These AMD Ryzen AI HX 300 APUs will go on sale in the second half of this year.

AMD Strix Halo APUs (Ryzen AI HX 300) are the company’s new high-performance APUs. Made for 4 nmthey will suggest the configuration up to 16 cores and 32 processing threads. Now combined high performance cores (Zen 5) and low consumption (Zen 5c).

We will have graphics on RDNA 3+ architecture with maximum configuration 2560 stream processors. This represents a huge performance improvement over the current top-end iGPU, the AMD Radeon 780M with 768 stream processors based on the 6nm RDNA 2 architecture. This iGPU can provide performance similar to that of GeForce RTX 3080 video card. Although we don’t care too much about it, there will also be a significant improvement
AI Performance reaching 80 TOPS.

Depending on the APU chosen we will have a TDP that It will move from 55 to 125 watts.. This implies a huge change in attitude 65 W as the maximum TDP that we have seen in the latest APUs (until 2018). This makes it clear that we will experience a huge jump in performance on both the CPU and GPU.
