Angelica Ross explains why she called Emma Roberts
Trans actress Angelica Ross has revealed why she called out her co-star Emma Roberts after alleged transphobic comments on the set of the film American Horror Story: 1984.
Ross starred alongside Roberts in the ninth season of the series, which aired back in 2019. She also collaborated with AHS creator Ryan Murphy on the critically acclaimed drama about ballroom dancing in New York City, Pose.
Ross claimed that Roberts intentionally misgendered her when they worked together. In a new interview, Ross opened up about what it’s like to work while experiencing transphobia.
“I’m even more proud of it when I think about what I had to go through to do this job,” she told BuzzFeed. “I had it with Hollywood and protecting bad actors. And when I talk about bad actors, I don’t just mean acting. “I’m talking about people who behave badly and everyone knows they behave badly.”
She went on to explain that she has received numerous DMs and text messages from other LGBTQ+ people in the industry who have also had to work in similar circumstances.
The actress added that she spoke to Roberts following her transphobic comments, saying: “You know what’s going on. If you don’t want to talk about the core issue of your behavior, then an apology won’t do anything for me… You’re not sorry, you’re just sorry that (the backlash) occurred.” »
Ross also said she doesn’t support an industry that “treats black people differently” while “trying to pretend (they’re) all about diversity and inclusion when (they) just want more white women at the table.”
“What we’re not talking about is that these same white women are sometimes very aggressive on set, using their privilege,” she said.
PinkNews has contacted Emma Roberts’ rep for comment on the matter.
Pose The star previously told fans that Roberts jokingly complained to the director that “Angelique was being rude,” prompting him to say, “Okay ladies, that’s enough. Get back to work.”
“Then she looks at me and says, ‘You mean lady?'” Ross said.
“I’m standing there looking at her stupid ass in the damn (cell) trying to process (what) the hell she just said.
“I was like, ‘If I say anything, I’ll be the problem,’ and I know that because there was someone who came forward about what she did and they got consequences for it. Not she! “They did.”
Roberts did not respond to PinkNews’ request for comment at the time.
