American actress, Angelina Jolievisited the mayan region of the Yucatan Peninsula. The objective was to promote the protection and conservation of the melipona maya bee.
Jolie’s visit was part of the initiative Women for Bees (Women for Beesin English) of Guerlainof which she is an ambassador.
On her own, Jolie lived with mayan women which are also in charge of protecting the melipona bee, a native species that is in danger of extinction.

Women for Bees was associated with the Selva Maya Foundation (FSM)a non-profit organization, which also protects the melipona bee.
Angelina Jolie visited the Santa Clara community, in the Akumal jungleto join the work that the mayan women carried out for the conservation of this species of bees.
“I recently traveled to the Yucatan Peninsulain Mexico, and met with the inspiring mayan women from the region who are helping to preserve the oldest and smallest bee in the world, the melipona maya,” Jolie said in a video posted on Guerlain’s social media.
In addition, in the video you can also see that Jolie lived with several children from the community with whom she was able to try the honey that this type of bee makes.
The initiative
It is important to note that Guerlain’s Women for Bees was launched in 2020. According to its Facebook page, the initiative combines the most important commitments of the house: female empowerment and the protection of bees.
On the other hand, the Guerlain program seeks to train women beekeepers in Mayan communities with which it seeks to help the conservation of the Maya melipona bee.
This bee plays an extremely important role for the entire ecosystem of the Mayan jungle, however, due to the work of the human being, it is in danger of extinction.
