APEC summit concludes in Lima with Xi and Biden in attendance

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2024 concluded this Saturday in a meeting in the Peruvian capital, Lima, attended by prominent international leaders such as Joe Biden and Xi Jinping.
The leaders gathered in Lima concluded the summit with a family photo featuring Xi, Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; the Prime Minister of Thailand, Pathongtarn Shinawatra; Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese; The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Christopher Luxon, the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, or the host, President of Peru, Dina Bolwart. It has also been announced that South Korea will host APEC 2025.
Boluerte concluded the summit by highlighting the “huge impact on the international position of our country in one of the most important and dynamic regions such as Asia-Pacific” and strengthening Peru’s foreign policy.
Boluert recalled that he met Biden, who was visiting Peru for the first time, and other leaders from the region. “We have strengthened our image as a country open for business,” he stressed.
Boluert also highlighted the Joint Ministerial Declaration of the Foreign and Trade Ministers, “Lima Roadmap to Promote Transformation in the Formal and Global Economy”. “It is considered the most important deliverable of APEC Peru 2024. This instrument will serve as a public policy recommendation to promote the gradual reduction of high levels of informality with a comprehensive approach,” he highlighted.
The meeting has served to facilitate various bilateral meetings, such as the one held on Friday between Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who expressed their intention to promote a “mutually beneficial strategic relationship” .
Ishiba conveyed to Xi Japan’s “deep concern” about the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands dispute and Chinese military activity in the region. Xi, for his part, highlighted that both are important countries in Asia and the world and expressed willingness to “cooperate”.
