Apple loses leadership in mobile phone sales to Samsung in first quarter
Tech giant Apple lost first place in mobile phone sales to South Korean company Samsung in the first quarter this year, according to a report from consulting firm International Data Corporation (IDC).
The apple company’s market share is 55.4%, while South Koreans reached 60.5%, according to IDC.
Global smartphone sales grew 7.8% year-on-year to reach 289.4 million units in the first quarter of 2024, according to preliminary data from the Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker compiled by (IDC).
During that period Apple’s mobile device sales fell 9.6% and Samsung’s fell 0.7%. According to IDK.
Both companies are in a close battle for leadership in mobile phone sales, and until 2023, consumers preferred Apple.

While IDC expects the two companies to maintain their positions at the top end of the market, Huawei’s resurgence in China, as well as notable gains from Xiaomi, Transsion, OPPO/OnePlus and vivo, will likely force both OEMs to take a closer look at the areas in which they can expand and diversify.
