At least seven people, including four minors, killed in fire in a popular Nice area International

At least seven people, including four minors, were killed and four others injured in a fire that broke out in the early hours of Thursday on the top floor of a seven-story building in a popular area of the Moulins area, the city police of the French city of Nice reported. As announced by prosecutor Damien Martinelli, this security force is investigating the incident with the initial hypothesis that it could have been a deliberate fire.

“Last night, shortly before three o’clock in the morning, a fire broke out on the top floor of a seven-story building in the Moulins neighborhood of Nice,” he previously reported on his X account, a previously known social network such as Twitter, the prefecture of the French region of Alpes-Maritimes.

“The balance is as follows: seven dead, one seriously injured, three slightly injured. The prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes expresses his deepest condolences for this terrible tragedy and thanks the emergency services and forces for their intervention,” the message said.

The Nice prosecutor’s office detailed in statements to the French television network BFMTV that among the dead, all of them from the same family of Comorian origin, are four minors aged 5, 7, 10 and 17. She died after jumping out of a window in an attempt to escape the flames. The other three dead are two adult women and a man.

The prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Hugues Moutouh, has indicated that three other residents living in the damaged plant have been injured, including a 47-year-old man who jumped out of a window to escape the fire. Two of the injured are in critical condition, so it cannot be ruled out that the death toll could rise in the coming hours.

Five other people were rescued by firefighters from the windows of the block of flats.

To know what happens outside is to understand what will happen inside, don’t miss anything.

“Criminal traces are being considered,” prosecutor Martinelli said later, speaking briefly next to the damaged building, adding that an investigation had been opened into charges of causing death by deliberate arson.

The official did not say what evidence pointed to a crime, but he has said that experts from the Marseille police laboratory were due to go to the scene “to carry out a crime scene investigation”. Some media outlets claim that authorities suspect the fire may have been caused by three masked men who were seen entering the building shortly before the fire broke out.
