Barça and Nike have reached an agreement in principle, one of the sport’s largest sponsors

Barcelona (EFE). – Barcelona and multinational Nike have reached an agreement in principle that could provide the Barça club with the highest level of sports sponsorship available, according to sources in the negotiations who informed EFE.

The contract can be signed immediately after Barcelona president Joan Laporta urgently called the board electronically this Friday to communicate the terms and the leading team accepted them.

A few months ago, Laporta called the agreement “the most important in the world on the football field”, although the numbers were not disclosed. The boomerang multinational’s leaders will now also need to approve the agreed terms for closing the deal, which EFE says is “virtually complete” and could take place next week at the earliest.

Nike vs Puma: Previous Battle

Information provided by radio station “Rac1” and confirmed by EFE from sources of full solvency. The agreement with Nike expired in 2028 and comes after Barcelona received a major offer from Puma and were even considering the possibility of producing and distributing their own clothing brand.

All this led to a dispute between Barça and Nike, which went to court, and the court ruled in favor of the American multinational corporation.

At the beginning of the season, Laporta explained in a speech that the terms of the agreement had been improved and assured that “when it is signed” it will be “the best contract in the world of football.”

“Signing would have given us a 1:1 and signed without problems, but we have been working to get the best contract for Barça and are now in the negotiation process,” he said at the time.

Barcelona partners will make a decision on the contract with Nike

The agreement is now about to be closed, and when it is concluded, it will give Barcelona greater economic respite after the difficulties of recent years.

Although the figures have not been disclosed, and taking into account the pro-rata distribution of the “signing bonus” (bonus for signing a new contract), the signing could mean around 120 million euros per season for Barcelona.

The agreement will be extended from 2028, when the current contract ends, and the increase will be significant from 2028 to 2038, the end date of the contract.

Negotiations between both sides focused on the expansion of “e-commerce,” which is now at the mercy of Nike. Barça was negotiating the possibility of controlling electronic sales, which in this sense would increase turnover.

In any case, once an agreement is reached, the Barça division partners will have to approve the commitments between both parties.
