Benjamin Mendy found not guilty on seven counts of sexual assault

EFE.- Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy was found not guilty of six cases of rape and one of sexual assault, as ruled this Friday by the court in Chester (England).

However, the jury failed to reach a verdict on one count of rape and one count of attempted rape, opening the possibility for those cases to be retried in a new trial.

Mendy, 28, was suspended by Manchester City in August 2021, when the cases came to light, and the footballer himself pleaded not guilty to the charges in May 2022. The trial against him and his friend Louis Saha ( not related to the footballer of the same name) began on August 10, 2022.

After 14 days of deliberation, the jury, made up of seven men and four women, unanimously found that Mendy is innocent of seven of the charges against him, while they could not reach a verdict regarding attempted rape. a woman in 2018 and a rape of another woman in October 2020.

Saha, a friend of Mendy’s, was found not guilty by the jury on three counts of rape of two teenagers. However, the jury failed to reach a verdict on three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault against him.

According to Mendy’s words at the trial, the accusations will haunt him “for life”, his life in football “is over” and this situation has been “absolute hell”.

The allegations suggested that Mendy was a “predator” who met the girls in Manchester nightclubs before inviting them to private parties at his Cheshire mansion, where the assaults allegedly took place.

Mendy was first arrested in November 2022 after allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman three times. After being released under investigation, he before being accused by a different woman of sexual assault. When he was out on bail, three other women accused him of rape, including a 17-year-old.
