Billie Eilish returns concert at Foro Sol
Twenty-four hours after a storm forced the cancellation of her performance, Billie Eilish debuted Thursday night at Mexico City’s Foro Sol in the biggest concert of her career to date, performing to more than 51,000 fans. .
“Hello, Mexico City!” he said. “What crazy nights! Wow! How many of you were there last night for the (expletive) storm? By God, I thank you all for being here again, I thank you for putting up with that and coming back and I’m so thankful there wasn’t another storm because here we are!” she added, receiving a standing ovation before performing “my strange addiction”.
Eilish had a moment that made her blush at the concert. At the beginning, she yelled excitedly: “Bogotá, how are you today?!” Mexican fans responded excitedly, apparently unaware of the mistake. Several songs later, in the acoustic section of the recital where she was seated next to her brother Finneas, Eilish apologized for the mix-up.
“I accidentally said Bogotá at the beginning and I know I’m not in Bogotá, I hope you know, I know I’m in (expletive) Mexico City!” he said. “Literally, I’m here and there and there and there… I’m surviving on sleep deprivation and brain deprivation. Anyway, Mexico City, I love you and I am very happy to be here, ”she added before interpreting“ i love you ”.
The American artist awarded with 7 Grammys began her presentation around 7:20 p.m. He performed songs like “Bury a Friend”, “NDA”, “my strange addiction”, “xanny”, “Listen Before I Go”, “TV”, “Ocean Eyes”, “Billie Bossa Nova”, “when the party’s over ” and his hit “Bad Guy.”
At another point, Eilish appeared on a crane from the back of the venue where she sang elevated near the stands, surrounded by the lights from her fans’ cell phones.
“I missed them, I’ve been on this little tour for several weeks and they’ve all been new places for me,” he said. “But then I thought, I’ve been to Mexico City before, so I feel very familiar, even though I’ve only been here once, I feel like I know them, I feel like we’re old friends and we’re reuniting.”
Eilish had previously performed at the Corona Capital festival in Mexico City in 2019 and as a headliner at festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury, as well as concerts in large arenas like Madison Square Garden. But with its 65,000 capacity and a “sold out” sign, the Foro Sol concert of her “Happier Than Ever” tour was a new record for Eilish.
Towards the end of the concert, Eilish spoke about the importance of taking action against climate change.
“By protecting the earth, we protect ourselves and take care of ourselves,” he said before performing “everything i wanted”, and recalled that he had sung it live for the first time in Mexico. “I will forever cherish that.”
Eilish left at 9:00 p.m. with her arms full of Dr. Simi, a stuffed animal that has become a kind of trophy for foreign artists who perform in Mexico.
The day before, a heavy hailstorm forced the cancellation of Eilish’s concert despite her fans having remained stoic resisting the water for hours. When the storm subsided a bit, Eilish sang acoustic versions of “TV,” “Happier Than Ever,” “Lovely,” “Ocean Eyes,” and “everything i wanted” as thanks to the fans.
