Blake Shelton’s Return to ‘The Voice’ Hinges on That Dream Script
It’s going to take a couple of arms and legs to get Blake Shelton back as a coach at NBC.”Voice” but the country star says he would do it if all the stars aligned.
In a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Shelton reflected on his decision to leave the show last year after 23 seasons, admitting that he feels more confident in his decision as time goes on.
“Every day I feel a little better,” he said of leaving. “I feel better after this decision.”

But there are elements of The Voice that Shelton admits were hard to say goodbye to. “I miss people. I mean, these people have become like family to me, literally from the entire crew to the producers of the show. I was with them more than with my family,” he shared. “I miss it,” adding that he “doesn’t miss work at all.”
“I absolutely needed a break from work because if I wasn’t interested in it, it wouldn’t be doing any good for those on my team,” he said of leaving the show. “I don’t want to be someone who just does his job. These artists need someone who will fight for them.”

Shelton still holds the record for most wins by a coach, winning nine different seasons.
“The second I started thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, I don’t even remember what season it is. Who are the coaches this season? (I knew that) I had to get out of here,” he said, even though Shelton left the show while wife Gwen Stefani was still a coach.
After announcing his departure, Shelton admitted that he had been itching to leave for a long time.
“I think I was close to calling it a day when COVID hit. And then because of COVID, I didn’t want to leave the show and leave everyone in a bind. I mean, this show changed my life,” he admitted to “Today” host Carson Daly, who also hosts “The Voice,” in February 2023.

But Shelton says there’s a script that would intrigue him enough to return. “If they could ever get the original four coaches back together, maybe (I would come back) for one season, a one-time thing,” he shared.
“It would be fun for me… I would be interested in doing it,” he said of meeting CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine.
Maroon 5 frontman Levine left the show after 16 seasons, and Aguilera and Green’s tenures were much shorter.
The Voice is currently in its 25th season with coaches Reba McEntire, John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay.
