US Secretary of State Antony Blinken questioned whether Hamas was “moving in good faith” amid ceasefire talks.

Blinken, who is in the region to push a US-backed ceasefire proposal, said Hamas had proposed a number of changes “that go beyond the positions they have taken previously.”

“There comes a point where if one side continues to change their demands, even demands and insists on changes to things they have already agreed to, then you have to ask yourself whether or not they are proceeding in good faith,” he said, speaking in Qatar on Wednesday this week.

Blinken said that while he believes the current gaps are “fixable,” that doesn’t mean they will close, adding that “ultimately, it depends on people saying yes.”

“It’s time to stop bargaining and start a ceasefire,” he said.

Blinken made the comments in Doha alongside Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani. Al-Thani said Qatar, Egypt and the United States have discussed Hamas’ response to the resolution.

“We and our partners in the State of Qatar are committed to bridging the gap to find a way to end the war as soon as possible,” Al-Thani said.
