Broncos agree with Saints for head coach Sean Payton, sources say

Denver reached an agreement to compensate New Orleans to acquire the services of the coach
The New Orleans Saints Y denver broncos reached a compensation agreement in exchange for the head coach Super Bowl Winner, Sean Paytonsources told Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The Saints will receive the first-round draft pick from the broncos of 2023 (No. 30 overall) and the second round of 2024 in exchange for Payton and the third round turn of 2024 of the Saintsthe sources said.
This clears the way for Payton firm with the broncos to become the next head coach of the franchise.
The broncos sent their first-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in last year’s trade for quarterback Russell Wilson, but then acquired a first-round pick from the Miami Dolphins in the trade that sent Bradley Chubb to South Florida last season . That pick originally belonged to the San Francisco 49ers, who sent the pick to Miami in the trade that allowed them to take Trey Lance in the 2021 draft.

When you agree to a contract, Payton will replace Nathaniel Hackett, who was fired during his first season as head coach of the broncos.
Denver also had an interest in head coach of the University of Michigan, Jim Harbaugh, and the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, DeMeco Ryans, among others. Ryans was hired this Tuesday as new head coach of the Houston Texans, sources told Schefter.
Payton led the Saints from 2006 to 2021 and went 152-89 and led the franchise to its only Super Bowl title after the 2009 season.
With Drew Brees as his quarterback, Payton had in New Orleans one of the NFL’s most productive offenses, finishing 12 times in the NFL’s top 10 in points scored, was No. 1 in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
