Thus, in the Congress for the period 2024-2027, NI is represented, led by Bukele’s cousin, with 4 MPs from the department of Usulután, 2 from San Vicente, 3 from La Paz, 2 from Cabañas, 2 from Cuscatlán. The center-right Vamos brought 1 MP from San Salvador and the Christian Democratic Party 1 MP from San Miguel Department.
On February 4, Salvadorans voted to elect 60 representatives instead of 84, following a reduction of MPs to the Congress proposed by President Bukele and approved by the legislative body, currently with a pro-government majority.
In the 2021 legislative and municipal elections, Nuevas Ideas won 56 out of 84 deputies in Congress.
