Cabildo Tenerife joins the “European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week”

Cabildo Tenerife has joined the European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, which runs from Monday to Friday to raise awareness among women about the prevention of this disease.

The Minister of Education and Prevention, Juan Acosta, invites you to learn about this disease and reminds the female population of Tenerife of the importance of vaccination against this virus and undergoing periodic medical examinations as a way to prevent cervical cancer.

“Cervical cancer is preventable and curable. Therefore, prevention is victory,” says the Minister of Education and Prevention, and he believes it is necessary to raise public awareness of the importance of Tenerife women empowering themselves in matters of their health, since cervical cancer is preventable,” said Acosta in the note.

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer mortality among women.

Chronic human papillomavirus infection is the underlying cause of more than 99% of cervical cancer cases.

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection, and the majority of the sexually active population will be exposed to the virus throughout their lives.

The infection is asymptomatic, so many people who become ill are unaware of it and can therefore transmit it.

According to statistics and estimates, more than 600,000 new cases are diagnosed annually on the European continent, of which 2,000 cases occur in Spain.
