A potential reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise without star Johnny Depp has sparked a wave of outrage in the online community, sparking the hashtag #NoJohnnyNoPirate.
This is what we know
“The Last of Us” producer Craig Mazin recently hinted at a “weird” script being developed for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6.” Mazin then confirmed that filming on the project could begin once the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were over. Mazin’s statements did not include any mention of Johnny Depp, who was previously reported to have backed out of the film.
Now “Pirates of the Caribbean” fans are revolting on the Internet over Johnny Depp’s absence from the franchise’s next installment. Under the hashtag #NoJohnnyNoPirates, Twitter users threatened to boycott the film if it was released in theatres.
Fans angry over Johnny Depp’s cancellation began celebrating Disney on their Twitter profiles and threatening to skip theaters if Captain Jack Sparrow does not return to screens. Additionally, viewers are posting multiple photos of Depp as the Captain and supporting it with the hashtag #NoJohnnyNoPirate.
So here’s what I think: If they go ahead and make a Pirates movie without Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, not only won’t we go see it in theaters, but on opening day, we’ll all be watching The Curse of the Will be streaming Black Pearl. Being able to tell them exactly what we wanted….

Before Johnny Depp was sued for defamation by his ex-wife Amber Heard, it was thought that he would definitely return to the role of Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel. Depp has since revealed that he was fired from “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” even though he wanted back, especially after Heard was found guilty in court.
Disney has yet to comment on the matter and according to Mazin’s statements, it appears that “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” will move forward without Depp. Hopefully the fan outcry will force Disney to make a different decision. If they have any influence, rebellion upon the return of Captain Jack Sparrow is the way to go.
