Cardona experts warn of rising cases of syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases

Juan Cardona specialistsin that European Sexual Health Day (Feb. 14) warn of rising cases of syphilis and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), which have very serious health consequences. Both gynecology, dermatology and psychology from Rieber’s group have provided a range of advice that requires information and responsible decision-making.

gynecologist Luz Marina Marques remember the importance of “using condoms male, female, as well as oral protection at all stages of sexual intercourse, that is, from the very beginning, to avoid direct contact with the diseased area” and indicates that “infections can also be transmitted through the mouth.”

Serious circumstances

Moreover, he advocates education and for “not dehumanizing sexual intercourse and knowing that a sexual partner should avoid sex with someone who is infected.” Additionally, if there is a risky encounter, “you should go to the doctor, get tested, and tell your sexual partner so they can do the same and prevent the spread.”

They grew up in the 25 to 34 age group, particularly in men, although women were also aged 20 to 24.

Luz Marina Marquez explains that sexually transmitted diseases have serious consequences, especially if the diagnosis is made late or they are not treated. “Chlamydia or gonorrhea cause local damage to the mucous membranes of the urinary and genital organs, which can lead to infertility; others, such as hepatitis, can cause liver failure, which can lead to cirrhosis; and human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause cervical cancer,” he explains. It also confirms heart or nervous system problems caused by syphilis, or immunodeficiency caused by HIV, which makes a person susceptible to other infections that can lead to death.

Dermatology

The dermatology health care team is drawing attention to the problems caused by STDs. Doctor Antonio Martinez Torresfrom Ribera Caravaca adds symptoms such as “pelvic pain, pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse, ulcers or warts on the genitals, mouth and anus, discharge from the vagina or penis, pain and burning when urinating, fever, general malaise and in women, vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor and a strange color or bleeding.”

and psychologist Miriam Morafrom the Vinalopo Hospital in Elche, emphasizes that “it is important that the population knows what STDs are and how they are transmitted; treat sexuality naturally and as a reality that accompanies us throughout our lives; learn to use condoms and have easy access to them; observe rules of personal hygiene, lead a healthy lifestyle and exercise active responsibility when conducting medical examinations.”

Rieber’s group recalls that, according to the 2022 surveillance report, cases of STDs have increased in the age group from 25 to 34 years, especially in men, although also significantly in women aged 20 to 24 years. The most common are HPV, herpes, hepatitis, HIV, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, gonococcus and syphilis.
