Who is Edgar Barrera, the most nominated artist for Latin Grammys?
This 33-year-old musician, producer and composer has proven that he can handle any genre he comes across. He has created songs in musical styles such as Mexican banda, reggaeton, bachata, pop, cumbia or vallenato.
He is originally from a state called Tamaulipas, located in northeastern Mexico, more precisely from a place called Ciudad Miguel Alemán. But he says he doesn’t have many memories of that place, as he spent his time locked in the house and playing guitar.
Edgar has a musical lineage; His father was part of a group called Mister Chivo that was known in the area for their tropical songs in the eighties. His father, Luis Alberto Barrera, was the band’s director and second voice.
He studied electronic engineering, but never completed it. He arrived in that city of 3 million inhabitants called Miami, which although saturated with Latinos and more precisely with Latin musicians, is generally considered a gateway within the music industry to almost all of Latin America.
So Edgar started working hard and over the years he made achievements as a composer, producer and recording engineer. Currently he has worked on more than 100 songs, which has given him the experience to become one of the most important references on the continent.
Something that he will be able to demonstrate this night of the Latin Grammys, when some of his thirteen nominations will be turned into gramophones that he will take home.
