Changes to Bizum for 2025: limit on the amount you can receive

Bizum has become an important tool in the field of digital payments in Spain, allowing immediate transfers between users simply by knowing the recipient’s phone number or by generating a QR code. All this is free and faster than transfer, which makes many people choose this payment option. So much so that you can even claim a lottery prize through Bizum.
Bizum has 25 million users, which is half the population of Spain, since it is only available in our country and Andorra. This does not leave banks indifferent, as they know they must update at the pace of their users, who are increasingly demanding greater ease of payments and collections, even internationally.
Currently, users can make monthly transfers through Bizum up to €5,000, and daily transactions have no limit on the amount as long as they do not exceed €2,000. Individual transactions must be between 0.50 and 1000 euros, and each user can receive a maximum of 60 transactions per month, although this depends on the banks.
These restrictions do not apply to business payments or donations, and in the case of self-employed individuals and companies, transactions exceeding €10,000 per year must be declared.
Bizum in 2025: news and international expansion
The growth of digital transactions in Spain, which accounts for about 70% of financial transactions, has prompted Bizum to look for new horizons. In 2025, the platform plans to expand throughout Europe, starting with Spain, Portugal, Italy and Andorra. The first tests carried out with payment systems MB Way (Portugal) and Bancomat (Italy) were successful, which became an important milestone in the global unification of instant payments.
This project is part of the EuroPA (European Payments Alliance) initiative, which aims to unify payment solutions in Europe using SEPA technology. This system already connects more than 45 million users and 182 financial institutions in participating countries. Following the initial rollout, Bizum plans to expand this functionality to the rest of the European continent, promoting fast, secure and efficient payments across the region.
In addition to international expansion, Bizum is working on new features by 2025:
-
Bizum Pay: an application that will combine cards from different banks, making digital payments even easier.
-
NFC technology: it will allow you to make payments in person by holding your mobile phone close to the switched on device.
-
Security and usability improvements: New European rules will be introduced to adjust limits and ensure user protection for cross-border transactions.
