A big format change affected the flagship Xperia
For years, the main complaint we at Xataka had with Sony mobile phones was their format: they were too narrow. In this generation, finally, makes the transition to 19.5:9 format, a common aspect ratio in other phones. This results in a phone that will be somewhat wider, but with a less elongated panel.
Speaking of the panel, Sony wanted to prioritize power efficiency, so it said goodbye to its regular 4K resolution. It now features a Full HD+ panel, a resolution they consider more than sufficient for the multimedia needs of average consumers. The panel is again OLED, in this case 6.5 inches with LTPO technology and an adaptive refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz.
The big novelty of this screen comes from its technology: it has same BRAVIA technologies as in Sony TVs, so a big jump in quality is expected. Likewise, brightness has increased by 50% compared to the previous generation.
In terms of battery life, Sony promises that the 5,000 mAh battery of this phone will allow you to use it for up to two days. We’ll check this in the review, but the transition from 4K to Full HD+ will have consequences. The processor, as it could not be otherwise, is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, accompanied by 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. This is the first Sony to have a vapor chamber, so hopefully the temperature issues will finally subside.
The main camera is the same as last year, although it can now shoot at 2x zoom by cropping the sensor, and software improvements are promised. The most recent change is in the camera app: they’ve finally combined the video, photo, professional photography, and other apps into one app to make everything more convenient.
The changes include the telephoto lens, which is now capable of photographing in the optical range from 3.5 to 7.1x using the same sensor and lens. This allows you to cover a wide range of focal lengths. from 85 mm to 170 mmwith great macro opportunities.
