Ciudad de la Salud: Learn how the Ciudad de la Salud will implement nuclear medicine – Nationals

City of Panama/The gamma camera, PET-CT positron emission tomography and state-of-the-art magnetic resonance, which translates to the Social Security Fund (CSS)in the promotion and development of nuclear medicine, will be provided to the population at the Ciudad de la Salud facilities.
This, in order to strengthen the accurate and timely diagnosis of patients who require highly complex specialized studies, explained Jorge Ng Chinkee, Medical Director of Ciudad de la Salud.
Through the intravenous injection of some isotopes or through specific contrasts, the sophisticated equipment allows the emission of a signal from the different organs, cells or tissues of the body, it also detects and provides information about the functioning of the organ to be studied, and helps to see how it’s working.
«Other benefits of PET-CT is that it can see structural alterations of a minimum size, up to 5 millimeters, it also helps to find lesions, tumors or vascular alterations, which allows us to have an evaluation of the patient in real time, of how the treatment of some cancers goes”, stressed. Ng Chinkee.
Patients will also have high-level magnetic resonance equipment, which projects three-dimensional structural images, which help to see specific lesions in certain parts of the body, such as: brain, spine, liver, digestive system, and in the urology part, has great acceptance.
In addition, the equipment is used in bone or soft tissue evaluations to determine the stage of certain cancers.
