“compact” Android mobile armed to the teeth
Google has just over two weeks to unveil its Pixel 9 family, which we already know will include at least the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Rumors and leaks keep coming, and among the latest, there’s one that stands out.
Hello, Pixel 9 Pro “compact”. A few months ago, it was revealed that there would be a new member of the family: the Pixel 9 Pro XL. This model simply won’t be bigger than the current Pixel 8 Pro, and they will simply use this last name to bring to market a variant that has been generating a lot of anticipation: the Pixel 9 Pro, which will theoretically be “compact”. At least when compared to its big brother.
Alternative to iPhone 15 Pro. Google’s decision, if confirmed, would mean we’re dealing with a family that will directly compete with Apple’s iPhones. The Pixel 9 will compete with the iPhone 15, the Pixel 9 Pro with the iPhone 15 Pro, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Note that there doesn’t appear to be a Pixel 9 Plus.
Size matters. According to the latest leaks, the Google Pixel 9 Pro will have a 6.34-inch screen diagonal. The current Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch screen, so if this data is confirmed, we will see a terminal that will not be very small, but clearly more compact than the current Pixel 8 Pro with a 6.7-inch screen. According to 91Mobiles / Onleaks, the Pixel 9 Pro XL will have a slightly larger diagonal – 6.8 inches.
Compact, armed to the teeth. And the best thing is that users who prefer a slightly smaller mobile phone will find a great candidate in the Pixel 9 Pro. With the exception of the battery capacity, which is logically lower than the Pixel 9 Pro XL, we will be looking at terminals that will have the best hardware features available in the family. There would be no sacrifices other than the aforementioned battery.
The Promise of AI. As Samsung has already done with its Galaxy S24, the protagonist of these terminals will be artificial intelligence. Mobile phones with the Pro name will have 16 GB of RAM, which will expand the possibilities of using Google’s chatbot with artificial intelligence Gemini.
Breaking Away from SamsungWhen Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S24, it did so while maintaining the classic differentiation. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, its flagship, has a 6.8-inch screen and competes directly with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but there is no “compact” variant, as the 6.2-inch Galaxy S24, which still proved itself to be a fantastic option in our analysis, has reduced the processor (Exynos 2400 vs. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 of the Ultra) and camera set.
Men Who Loved Small Cell Phones. A few years ago, manufacturers left behind the more compact sizes, and today the diagonal of the mobile phone screen almost always exceeds six inches. The love for small mobile phones still exists almost in its nostalgic version, but the war was won by large screens, and they did so with good arguments. Those who tried to bring back the small cell phone failed, and Peeble is a good example of this.
If confirmed, good for Google. Even so, manufacturers typically save their best hardware options for the biggest (and most expensive) phones, and Google’s move will allow them to pursue an alternative that only Apple has been able to champion until now: the best of the best, in two sizes. And then it’s up to the user to decide.
