Companies are leading upcoming investments in hydrogen plants

Spain will lead production green hydrogen in Europe and will be the country that creates the most green molecule jobs, with 181,000 positions by 2040, representing 11% of total jobs created in Europe, ahead of the UK (173,000), Germany (145,000) and France (105,000). This is stated in a report presented in Davos by Cepsa and Manpower.

As set out in Spain’s Hydrogen Roadmap, Spain is expected to have at least 100 to 150 hydrogen power plants in 2030, for which it is estimated investments which exceeds 21 billion euros.

Following the launch of the largest green hydrogen production plant in Europe in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) by Iberdrola, two projects that will see the light of day in the coming months will be located in Madrid, where, on the one hand, the first hydrogen plant will take place serving the Madrid Municipal transport company (EMT) and, on the other hand, the first green hydrogen production plant in Spain, produced from reclaimed water.

In the case of the public bus company, the project is being implemented by Serveo (through a joint venture with SIEC and Sumelzo) and is being built on an area of ​​42,000 m² in the Entrevias district of Madrid, where the operations center is located. is a municipal enterprise. This is a comprehensive engineering undertaking with an investment of approximately €11 million, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Ten buses powered by green hydrogen will be the first in the municipal fleet to be powered by this alternative energy in the coming months and will help achieve the milestone of a 100% green fleet by 2025. a photovoltaic plant is being built with more than 2,700 solar panels located on three breakwaters, with a maximum output of 1.6 MWh.

Also in the Community of Madrid, in this case in the city of Pinto, the Canal de Isabel II project has been launched, which will include the creation of Spain’s first plant for the production of green hydrogen produced from reclaimed water.

The wastewater treatment plant will be able to produce up to 12 million liters per day of the highest quality reclaimed water, suitable for use in industrial processes and now for the production of green hydrogen.

First hydrogen station in Aragon

Along with Madrid, Aragon will also open in the coming years a hydrogen plant, which in this case is promoted by CEAR, the Aragonese Renewable Energy Company and Enagás in El Burgo de Ebro, and will require an investment of 180 million dollars and the creation of 40 vacancies. Stable straight.

The project, which received $14.3 million in European funding, involves the installation of three wind farms and two photovoltaic parks that will supply the new facility with renewable energy. Its generating capacity will be 60 MW, and the energy produced will be used for four purposes: as a raw material, as a clean fuel, and for storage and discharge into the general power grid.

Enagás is promoting 55 specific renewable gas projects throughout Spain (34 green hydrogen projects and 21 biomethane projects) together with more than 60 partners.

Investment in Soria

In Garray (Soria), the construction of a plant that will supply green hydrogen to Castile and León for the first time is being completed, managed by H2Duero, a company shared by Redexis and Somacyl, according to its promoters in a dialogue organized by Redexis. on the topic “Green hydrogen: a modern path to decarbonization” together with Servicemedia.

The plant, which has invested 6 million euros and received funding from the Federal Government, has a capacity of 2.5 megawatts (MW) and will be able to produce 300 tons of hydrogen per year produced for industrial and transport purposes, thus avoiding 89 tons of hydrogen. carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere.

In addition, this project will serve the Garray Eco Business Park, which covers an area of ​​almost 3,000 square meters and has water storage tanks, as well as support facilities for control and monitoring, air conditioning, lighting, security, etc.
