continues to sell high-end mobile phones in China

Huawei phones are gaining popularity again. The recent presentation of the Huawei Mate 70 was another sign of the ambitions of a manufacturer that seemed doomed, but which turned things around in spectacular fashion.

Telephony. The new Huawei flagships, accompanied by the foldable Mate X6, stand out for their design and outstanding specifications. The OLED panel, 5300mAh battery and new set of cameras promise a lot. However, the big difference lies elsewhere.

HarmonyOS NEXT. The new operating system of these terminals, called HarmonyOS NEXT, says goodbye to the dependence on Android. It’s a platform built from scratch and isn’t even compatible with Android apps. Huawei thus definitively separates itself from Google’s, which is a real turning point for the future of its terminals.

It all started with the Mate 60 Pro. These new devices replace the controversial Mate 60, which attracted so much attention last year. Analysts were not entirely clear how Huawei achieved an advanced chip for these terminals given the restrictions of the trade war between the US and China.

Huawei conquers the high-end market. This terminal has strengthened the brand’s reputation as a high-end benchmark in China. Huawei’s market share of phones priced over $600 rose from 11% in the third quarter of 2022 to 33% in the same period in 2024, according to CNN.

Meanwhile, Apple is down. Previously, Apple dominated the sector in China, but over the same period its situation has reversed: its share was 72% in the third quarter of 2022, and 52% in the same period of 2024. This is still an exclusive quota, but at this rate Apple’s dominance could change in the short term.

Quite a resurrection. What’s happening with Huawei is largely due to its success in China, where the brand has apparently become a real national success story. Google’s 2019 veto seemed to spell the death of its smartphone division, but the company has turned the tide by focusing on the Chinese market and freeing itself from the dependencies that previously tied it to American companies. The result is clear: Huawei is once again shining in the high-end mobile phone market, at least in China.

In Hatak | Huawei is gearing up for large-scale production of its most powerful artificial intelligence chip yet. It’s unclear how he plans to do this.
