Copilot is no longer just a personal assistant. It is now integrated into Microsoft Teams to be part of the team.

Teamwork with Teams is taken to the next level with Team Copilot AI, a new AI assistant designed to integrate with the Microsoft tool.

Microsoft used the BUILD conference to announce how it plans to take Copilot, its artificial intelligence assistant, beyond individual tasks. After a debut focused on allowing users to use Copilot on their own, the assistant is now focused on teamwork. AI in particular is a key contributor to Teams.

Because it’s important. With Team Copilot, the productivity, creativity, and time-saving benefits that Copilot offers apply to corporate teams, not just individuals. The goal is for AI to become the ideal assistant for improving collaborative tasks and increasing project management agility.

New opportunities. According to Microsoft, Team Copilot will have different roles:

  • Simplify meetings by managing the agenda and taking notes that anyone can edit.
  • Moderate groups and summarize relevant information in extensive Teams chats, including answering team questions.
  • Manage projects by providing Planner flows when creating and assigning tasks, tracking deadlines, or notifying a participant when input is needed.
  • These capabilities will be available in preview later this year to customers with a Copilot Microsoft 365 license.

Big bet. Microsoft aims to free teams from more administrative tasks that take up time and resources so they can focus on being productive and creative.

The promise is attractive: it presents a scenario similar to arriving at a meeting in Teams, where Copilot already has the agenda ready, takes notes for us, and even answers simple questions. Or open the project in Planner, where tasks are already created, assigned, and due dates are tracked.

Money trail. Microsoft sees Team Copilot as an opportunity to turn increased efficiency into measurable results. That is, process automation and collaboration optimization lead to measurable efficiencies and savings for companies.

Future. Team Copilot is the first look at how Microsoft is offering a future of teamwork marked by artificial intelligence that no longer just helps participants independently, but actively participates in the company’s own procedures.

How will this develop? Only time will tell us, but it points to a work environment in which AI is an omnipresent and indirect entity that helps, by making small decisions and taking care of bureaucracy, to free workers from it.
