Council announces changes to human papillomavirus vaccine

The vaccination schedule in Andalusia this year includes several innovations. In addition to replacing the meningococcus C vaccine dose with the meningococcus ACWY dose recommended at four months of age, Health and Consumer Affairs Secretary Catalina Garcia also announced a switch to a single dose against the virus. Human papilloma (HPV) from February 1. Until now, two doses have been vaccinated with a minimum interval of 6 months between each other.

So from 1 February, girls and boys aged 12, as well as girls and boys aged 13 to 18, and boys aged 13 who have not previously been vaccinated, will only be able to get one shot to protect against HPV.

This modification meets World Health Organization recommendations supported by studies in which protective immunogenicity and clinical efficacy are observed at comparable times to two- or three-dose regimens in adolescents after longer follow-up. 10 years with HPV2 and HPV4 vaccines and three years with HPV9 .

Therefore, based on current data and the existing trend of recommendations from various relevant official bodies, the Council decided to take this step, which has already been taken by countries such as Australia and the UK.
