Demi Lovato reveals if they want kids after coming out as non-binary
For Demi Lovato, 2021 has been the year of living out loud and speaking her truth.
The singer, songwriter, actor and activist came out as non-binary in May, and since then they have been an open book, helping others better understand gender identity and encouraging others to find their own truth along the way.
In an interview released on Thursday, the 29-year-old entertainer opened up even more about her life and looked ahead to the future when it comes to children and romantic love.
Last year, Lovato spoke about her desire to start a family and considered children a goal for the next decade of her life. But since then their plans have continued to change.
“I don’t know,” the “I Love Me” singer said when TODAY’s Hoda Kotb asked about the possibility. “I used to really want this, but now that I’m about 30 and don’t have children, it’s quite nice. “I have a maternal instinct, I love my animals, and I used to really think that one day I would like to be a parent.”

Now? It’s not that they decided not to do it, it’s that they decided not to decide.
“I just don’t know because I’m going with the flow and if life presents itself with a baby in the future, it will happen and we’ll take it,” they explained. “We’ll see what happens.”
When it comes to finding a partner with whom they may or may not take the parenting plunge, Lovato is keeping the future wide open. They are interested in finding someone they love, and they don’t have many restrictions on what that looks like.
“I’m very active, so I date men and women,” they said. “But I identify as pansexual, meaning I’m attracted to people, and it doesn’t matter how you identify. If you’re also non-binary, if you’re straight, or if you’re also fluid, I can’t resist sharing my love with anyone.”
It’s not that Lovato needs a partner or a child to feel fulfilled and happy.

“I would say I’m very happy,” they said. “I think happiness is not a permanent state of being. “I think I’m very content and I have moments of happiness, moments of bliss and joy that are so satisfying.”
And they believe that happiness is what you make of it.
“I woke up this morning, meditated, and then listened to music that I like, and it lifted my spirits,” they recalled. “I think that someone who is very happy with their life starts their day off like that.”
