Djokovic wavers in front of crowd: ‘England won, that’s why you stayed’
Serbian Novak Djokovicwho beat Alexei Popyrin on Saturday, joked about England’s result and told the Centre Court crowd: “England won, that’s why you stayed.”
The crowd applauded in the second set. England win penalty shootout against Switzerlandto which Djokovic responded by laughing and imitating taking a penalty against Popyrin.
“I took it for granted that there was a penalty shootout.. How did they end up? England won? That’s why you stayed. Congratulations to England. I tried to convert the penalty, but Alexey defended it well,” joked the Serb, who is already in the 1/8 finals, and said that his knee is progressing.
“I get better with every game. I definitely feel better than I did in the second round. I hope that the trajectory continues in the same vein and that he gets better with each game. “We’ll see what happens in the next round.”
