Former US President Donald Trump mistook journalist E. Jean Carroll for a photowho accused him of rape in the 1990s, with his ex-wife Marla Maples, according to a court document from a statement made in October, released Thursday.
Trump, 76, will appear in a New York court on April 10 to face a defamation and rape lawsuit brought by Carroll, 79, who alleges that he raped her in a changing room of a clothing store in New York in 1995 or 1996.
The double civil case for alleged defamation and rape faces Carroll -ex-columnist of the magazine elle– and the real estate magnate and former president (2017-21) in the federal Justice since 2019.
Carroll sued Trump for defamation in November 2019 for calling his allegations a violation of “complete lie” in June of that year. The two parties filed their affidavits in October. During his testimony, made public this week, Trump restated his defense.
“I will say this with the utmost respect: first, she is not my type; second, she never happened “the crime of which she is accusedAnd when shown a photo of himself with Carroll at a reception in the 1990s, he contended, erred.
“That’s Marla, yes, that’s my wife”Trump said when questioned by Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, in a new selection of excerpts from the statement that was released by the District Court for the Southern District of New York, the newspaper reported. The New York Times.

Trump was married from 1993 to 1999 to actress Marla Maples, 59, before meeting his current wife, Melania, in 1998.
In other snippets of Trump’s statement, which had already been released last week, the former president described the writer as “nutty” and “mentally ill”. Furthermore, she suggested, without evidence, that Carroll claimed in an interview that she enjoyed sexual assault.
“She actually indicated that she loved it, okay?”Trump said in the statement, mischaracterizing comments Carroll made to CNN four years ago. “Actually, I think she said it was hot, right? She said it was very sexy to be raped.”.

The plaintiff’s attorney asked, “So, sir, I just want to confirm: Is it your testimony that E. Jean Carroll said that she loved being sexually assaulted by you?” Trump responded: “Well, I think that’s what happened,” the US news channel NBC picked up.
Trump, who remains highly influential in the Republican Party and announced his 2024 run for president, used the statement to make unsubstantiated claims about the alleged success of his Truth Social social network and argued that Carroll’s lawsuit is fake news.
