In Punto de Encuentro, movie lover Miguel Kapliwski recommends two series that you cannot miss this weekend: Dopesik and The Bear. The first of these is a series inspired by the New York Times best-selling book and shows how one corporation fueled the worst opioid epidemic in American history.
It focuses on America’s opioid crisis, which was largely initiated by Purdue Pharma and its drug OxyContin, which was marketed as non-addictive. It spanned from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s, when the crisis deepened across the country. The series features an all-star cast including Michael Keaton and Kaitlyn Dever.
The Bear is an eight-episode miniseries that tells the story of Carmi Barzato, a young chef of supreme gastronomy who rises to the top of the field, going through all the pain of being the chef of a restaurant with multiple Michelin stars.
Historically, Carmine’s family ran a bowling alley for Italian sandwiches, those iconic spots where people line up to get access to one of the dishes that go away on the first go.
The place used to be run by Carmin’s older brother, who commits suicide overnight and leaves a hole, leaving him to take charge of this chaotic, poor, dirty, broken and financially impoverished place. You are forced to leave everything. and structural
