We’re not quite sure why this fan favorite gets so much love, but Dunsparce is very beloved. While his evolution, Dudunsparce, isn’t in Pokémon Go yet, you know the internet will briefly be a happy place when it launches. You also know we’re going to launch into a diatribe about why snakes aren’t segmented and why Dudunsparce’s two- and three-segmented forms clearly demonstrate that it’s not a snake, terrestrial or not…

Dunsparce IV stats 100% perfect in Pokémon Go
This week’s Featured Hour is a great opportunity to catch a Dunsparce with perfect IV stats.
“Perfect” means two things in Pokémon Go, depending on how you plan to use a given Pokémon. First, there’s the max build, 100% IV, which is the 15/15/15 you’re looking for for your 4* Pokédex, Raids, and Master League. However, because of how CP is calculated using three stats, a perfect Pokémon IV is usually just the best version of itself in the Master League.
Of course, you can’t see a Pokémon’s IV without catching it first, but with a little research beforehand, you can quickly spot a perfect Dunsparce based on CP alone.
If you’re at level 30 (or higher), you’ll ideally be looking for the following CPs for a perfect Dunsparce 15/15/15:
The wild CP value aligns with your trainer level until you reach level 30, and since the majority of the player base is now above this level, we’ve kept these values for the sake of simplicity. However, these values will be different if you are currently below level 30.
Is Dunsparce good at PvP?
As useless as this Pokémon may seem, it’s like a glorified Caterpie, actually not bad at all in Go Battle League! Well, it’s not bad in the Big League, but it’s terrible everywhere else. As for Dudunsparce, it’s not in play yet, so the point is moot. We’ll slide over that bridge when we get to it.
When it comes to Normal-type Pokémon in Pokémon Go, Dunsparce greatly surpasses last week’s Lopunny. He has good bulk, partly helped by the fact that he reaches level 40 in the Big League. Run Deployment, drilling path and rock slide, has a spam moveset that is surprisingly good. Ultimately, though, we’re looking at a generalist rather than something that will really go and turn the meta on its head.
In terms of matchups, we expect wins against Sableye, Alolan Sandslash, Lanturn, Mandibuzz, and Registeel. This is quite respectable. Meanwhile, losses come from Medicham (obviously), Umbreon, Galarian Stunfisk, Lickitung, and Alolan Ninetales, although the last three are surprisingly close and possible to beat if you go in with a shield advantage.
In Ultra League and Master League you face the same problem: a perfect finish on 15/15/15 in CP 1909. Don’t even think about it.

You can also work on the Timed Investigation: Master Ball mission and compete in Go Battle League. Be sure to compete in Shadow Raids, complete routes, use Daily Adventure Incense for a chance to encounter Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres. This incense can also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.
Is there a shiny Dunsparce in Pokémon Go?
Yeah, There is a shiny Dunsparce in Pokémon Go! Shiny Dunsparce was released in May 2020, as part of the Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto!
However, since Spotlight Hours does not note They have an increased shine rate, the chances of finding a shine are the same as finding them in nature. You simply have a better chance of finding one because of the number it generates.

What does brilliant Dunsparce look like?
As you can see below, bright Dunsparce blue for a hot pink. The yellows are a little more saturated, and that’s it. As with the above, there’s not much to get excited about.

Other tips for this hour of attention
Besides trying to catch a shiny Dunsparce in Pokémon Go, there are a couple more good reasons to participate in this week’s Spotlight:
- The best reason is, of course, the Stardust Double Catch Bonus running all hour long. This gives you the opportunity to collect Stardust twice as fast as usual, and each Dunsparce captured will give 200 Stardust (double the usual 100). If the weather in the game is Partly cloudy, this adds an additional 50 Stardust (double the usual 25), and stacks with a Star Piece to give a 1.5x multiplier to all Stardust earned. This means that every weather-enhanced Dunsparce captured while wearing a Star Piece will be worth it. 375 Stardust!
- If you’re a newcomer, this Featured Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Dunsparce candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and enter its evolution, Dudunsparce, into the Pokédex, that is, when you enter the game.
- Thanks to Dunsparce being a Normal type, catching a bunch during this Featured Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medal.
