Superstar Ed Sheeran gave a surprise performance at a London church on Wednesday evening.
The Shape of You singer was the special guest at his friend Passenger’s concert at the capital’s Union Chapel, following their latest collaboration.
Ed, 32, joined her on stage to perform the hit single Let Her Go, which was originally released in 2012.
They re-recorded the track for the anniversary edition of Passenger’s hit album All the Little Lights, which was being celebrated at Wednesday’s concert.
Speaking on stage with Ed after the performance, Passenger, 39, whose real name is Michael Rosenberg, said: “Well that was an amazing moment, wasn’t it? What a wonderful thing.”
Ahead of the concert, where she was joined by other guests Gabrielle Aplin and Nina Nesbitt, she said: “This is one of the most special shows I’ve ever played.
“Recreating this album has been a very emotional thing.
“I was a busker for many years, I played in pubs to up to 14 people including the bar staff.
“I never thought I’d be able to do this for a living and this album changed that.”
Despite Ed having previously talked about liking the beverage, punters were not allowed to drink alcohol in church due to its religious use.
It’s been a busy year for Ed, releasing his hit albums Subtract and Autumn Variations.
They completed the US leg of their Mathematics tour a fortnight ago and will play special shows in London later this month to celebrate the release of their latest record.
However, he will resume his tour in the new year and is currently scheduled to run until next September, by which time he will have performed 114 shows.
He has promised that there will be more new music to come, including the release of a pop record in 2024 as well as teasing a collaborative project with J Balvin.
The 38-year-old Colombian musician said: “It happened in an organic, natural way.
“We met; we had coffee; we ran into each other at the same gym, at the hotel.
“This is going to be another album that will get a lot to talk about, because it’s like a merger of two worlds.”
