Election results in France on July 7, 2024 | Bardella accepts his “part of responsibility” in the defeat of the extreme right | International
Participation at 12:00 is 26.6%
The total uncertainty about which government will emerge in the legislative elections this Sunday, including the possibility of the extreme right coming to power, is attracting citizens to the polls. According to the Ministry of the Interior, turnout at 12:00 was 26.63%. This figure is higher than the 25.9% of the first round at the same time last Sunday and, above all, much higher than the 2022 legislative elections, when by noon it had barely reached 18.99%.
The figures confirm the expected high participation in these early legislative elections, which in the first round itself, last Sunday, brought 66.71% of French people with the right to vote to the polls. This was the highest figure in 27 years, since the 1997 legislative elections (67.9% participation). In the parliamentary elections two years ago, only 47.51% voted in the first round.
These first figures – there will be measurements again at 5:00 p.m. – confirm the high participation predicted by surveys in recent days. According to the Ipsos institute, the number of French people who intend to vote this Sunday is between 66 and 70%, even higher than in the first round.
As highlighted Le Mondeonly 43.3 million French people are called to vote this Sunday, since almost six million citizens live in constituencies where a candidate won in the first round, so they do not need to vote a second time. Of the 577 seats in dispute, 76 have already been assigned before June 30: 39 deputies from the far-right National Regroupment (RN) and its allies, 32 from the left-wing coalition New Popular Front (NFP), two from what is now a Macronist majority, two from the diverse right and one from the conservative Los Républicains (LR). There remain 409 duels and 89 tri-party duels, where no classified candidate has withdrawn to prevent the RN from taking over, as has been done in more than 200 constituencies.
