Elections 2024 in Venezuela, live | Edmundo González: “We are going to build a government for everyone, including Chavismo”

María Corina Machado: “The fear is over in Venezuela”

Opposition leader María Corina Machado assured this Saturday during a proselytizing event in the northeast of Venezuela that “fear is over” in the country, despite the fact that – she denounced – the repression is “intensifying” as the presidential elections approach, scheduled for July 28.

“Fear is over here, fear is over,” the former deputy stressed, in front of thousands of people, at an activity held in the city of Maturín, in the Monagas state, in support of the candidate of the main opposition coalition – Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) -, Edmundo González Urrutia.

Machado thanked public workers who “despite being harassed, have raised their voices” and participated in the events of the majority opposition, and promised that, “in the government of Edmundo González Urrutia,” “there will be no harassment” or “revenge.” And, in return, workers would be guaranteed “the dignity, security and quality of life that this regime has taken away.”

“We are going to put this country into production, (…) you are going to earn well by serving the state, and you will be evaluated only by your qualities, not by your ideas. You will be respected for your ideas, that is security,” he said.

The opposition leader also expressed gratitude to the owners of vehicles and equipment used in campaign events, who “also risked” having their property taken away. He denounced that, “in these last hours,” the “repression” has intensified by the government of President Nicolás Maduro – who is a candidate for re-election – with “blockades” in the streets, arrests and “intimidation.”
