Endoscopy is an examination that allows to inspect the upper digestive tract: the esophagus, the stomach and the first part of the intestine. It is used to detect persistent diseases like peptic ulcer, gastritis, esophagitis, presence of Helicobacter pylori bacteria and to detect cancer. ,
Our unit leader, Dr. Gabriel Viel Letelier, Head of Endoscopy at Cleversalud Clinic, tells us, “We look with a probe (endoscope) to detect anomalies. The patient should fast for 8 hours. This procedure is ambulatory but requires sedation, so sedation is indicated. Recovery happens in minutes.
Colonoscopy allows the condition of the large intestine (colon) and rectum to be inspected. Dr. Jairo Ruiz Rodríguez, gastroenterologist at Clínica Claverslud, explains that “Polyps, diverticulosis, inflammation and colon cancer are detected. The patient’s preparation includes clearing his bowels the day before, a standard sedation is used which allows for a faster recovery.
