By Pyo Kyung-min
Is it worth sacrificing for love? According to K-pop boy band ENHYPEN, the answer is yes. The septet, consisting of Hyesung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-ki, sings about a boy who is willing to do anything for his lover in their fifth mini-album, “Orange Blood”. Is.
“Our goal was to express the feelings of a boy who has realized the impermanence of everything,” Jay explained during a press event at YES24 Live Hall in eastern Seoul’s Gwangjin district on Thursday. The event took place the day before the release of “Orange Blood”.
The singer continued, “So this guy embraces the philosophy of ‘Carpe Diem’ and his desire to love without regrets. The color orange represents his vow.”
“Orange Blood” is the sequel to the group’s May release “Dark Blood”, which sold 1.32 million copies during its first week of release. In front of the title track, “Sweet Venom”, the mini-album includes six other tunes, including “Mortal,” “Still Monster” and “Orange Flower (You Complete Me).”
“Orange Blood” is available in three versions: Korean, English, and Filipino-American TikTok star Bella Poarch’s version.
“The English rendition is not just a simple translation of the Korean lyrics,” Hyesung said. “I was especially excited to release it, as it is our first English song which allowed us to express our emotions more effectively.”
Sunwoo, the group’s youngest member, said, “I hope that our English version can record a good position on the Billboard charts.”
The lead single, “Sweet Venom”, seamlessly follows the story of “Bite Me”, the lead single from “Dark Blood”, which speaks to the members’ steadfast commitment to love. In the song, the singers pledge to stick with their loved ones despite the growing poison.
“Sweet Venom” is the first easy listening song from ENHYPEN, a group mostly known for their deep and powerful melodies.
According to Sunwoo, the highlight of “Sweet Venom” is its addictive melody.
He recalled, “The moment I heard it for the first time, I thought, ‘This should be our title track.’ “I could sing along to it right away, and I thought it would be an instant hit.”
Jay contributed lyrics to “Sweet Venom”, adding a personal touch.
He elaborated, “I had written songs with personal emotions before, but this time, I kept my team in mind and changed my approach.”
While they were preparing for their new album, the members of Enhypen were also on their world tour – Enhypen World Tour ‘Fate’ – performing in nine cities around the world. It also marks their first Japanese dome tour.
The group’s Japanese member Ni-Ki said she was thrilled to perform in her homeland.
“Performing at the Tokyo Dome is a dream for all artists,” he said. Tokyo Dome is the largest concert hall in Japan, which can seat 50,000 spectators.
The singer said, “When I first heard that we would be performing there, I couldn’t believe it. This was an opportunity to take myself to the next level as an artist.”
