The European Union has “strongly” condemned the “indiscriminate” attack by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on the Israeli city of Tel Aviv this Friday, which left one person dead and nearly a dozen injured.

“Humanitarian law strictly prohibits the indiscriminate bombing of civilian population centres and applies to all actors without exception,” the bloc said in a statement sent by the European External Action Service.

The Israeli military has previously reported that the drone launched by the Houthis that hit a building in Tel Aviv in the early hours of the morning was “an Iranian weapon” that had been modified to “increase its flight range”.

For his part, Yahya Sari, the spokesman for Houthi military operations, reported on his Telegram channel that the rebels have carried out a “quality operation” against Tel Aviv with a new drone called ‘Yafa’, which is “capable of evading the enemy” and cannot be detected by interception systems and radars.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) praised the attack on Friday. The militia said it was “a response to the brutal aggression against the helpless Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and a demonstration of support for the Palestinian resistance.”

For its part, Islamic Jihad has celebrated the attack “against the heart of Tel Aviv” and said it was “a natural response to the war of annihilation and war crimes against the Palestinian people that the enemy continues to wage with the support of the administration of (US President Joe) Biden and Western governments.”
