“Eventually the whole team joined us” | Relief

These are difficult times in Valencia, some days it is difficult to find hope. DANA caused a flood and devastated the south of the Turia River. The storm passed, but not the drama; after a storm of this magnitude, work skyrockets.. There are many people who need help, and not many people who can help in such difficult circumstances.

The only good thing about these moments is the reminder of human kindness. Let’s take an example Payporta, a modest team, from one of the municipalities hardest hit by the floods. Most of the first team players are visiting, but they are not going to stop providing support as much as possible.

The call of the club management, director and deputy director found a unanimous response among the players. The time has come to go on a pilgrimage, to travel along the roads leading from Valencia to Paiporta, loaded as much as possible with food.to revitalize the city.

It’s unpleasant to do this, the road is all muddy, communications are closed, and road transport is not even considered. The walk lasts an hour and a half, without mud and with full backpacks. Well, and much more, backpacks, strollers, bags, suitcases… anything that can hold a large amount of material is welcome. They bought food in the city of Valencia. They carry water, food, milk or medicine.. The idea is to first help the children of the club, they are from Paiporta, with whom they live on a daily basis. And also to grandparents, those who have the least opportunity to earn a living.

“We started collecting food last night when this happened, we discussed it with Héctor, some of us started talking, eventually the whole team joined us,” explains one of the players who took the lead in this outing.

Another time it will be time to talk about sports, the field on which the team plays has been destroyed. “It’s like an Olympic swimming pool,” explains Junior Garcia.sport lives on. It is secondary, this is where the first part of the walk ends, since the boys from the quarry were called to help them. They look tired, but this does not stop them from continuing to work. When all the children in the club had collected food, there was still some left to distribute. The delegation acted very effectively and is able to provide people with provisions.

Stories of pain follow one after another. The deputy director informs Relevo that All the players are fine, but many of them have lost their homes. One of them, a cadet (14-15 years old), was stuck at home with his family, without water or electricity. Paiport’s retinue approaches the house and calls them. Everything is impassable, so they have to go up to the balcony to give them water and food.

For many, this will be a turning point in their lives. It’s impossible to forget, no matter what the images are. One of the children tells how he saved a girl who was dragged to death by water. Chilling stories that will make your hair stand on end if you see them on TV from afar.which are now multiplying in some neighboring municipalities of Valencia.

“The car caught up with us across the river, and we saw a girl who was feeling bad, her car stalled… a disaster. The girl clung to us, swam, the water was up to her chest. We had to hide in a tree. Thank God, nothing happened to us, because three cars piled on us and it was a miracle they didn’t crush us,” explains the boy, trying to slowly come out of his extreme fright.

A walk through the center leaves a feeling of relief on their faces. They bring milk and food for children and the elderly. They knock on doors, approach nursing homes to give them what they bought in Valencia.. Some are asking if the malls have opened yet, seeing as they are so busy with food. The answer is no, of course, getting essential supplies right now is a difficult and difficult task. They shout to the balconies and see faces of relief. This is not the end yet, but a step towards improving the situation has been taken.
