Evidence from scientist who claims he has evidence that the entire universe could be a simulation, even our own lives | Society | Journal

In the 1999 cult film The Matrix, Thomas Anderson (Neo) discovers that the universe is a digital simulation. While this premise is science fiction, the concept is not as far from reality as it may seem. Inspired by this famous work, University of Portsmouth scientist Melvin Vopson explores the possibility that the universe is a simulation.

Vopson recently published a book called Reality Reset, and in an article for The Conversation, he outlines his theory, which is based on the second law of thermodynamics. This law states that entropy, or disorder, in an isolated system can only increase or remain constant. However, Vopson notes that in information systems, entropy behaves differently, remaining constant or even decreasing.

“In physics, entropy always increases. But in information systems, we don’t always see such an increase,” explains Vopson. This discrepancy led him to formulate the second law of infodynamics, which suggests that there must be an additional form of entropy, information entropy, to balance the observed increase in physical entropy.

Vopson suggests that this theory could have important implications in a variety of fields. For example, in atomic physics and cosmology, infodynamics could open up new perspectives. Moreover, in biology, Vopson argues that genetic mutations do not occur randomly, as Charles Darwin suggested, but are aimed at minimizing information entropy. Their analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and genetic mutations supports this idea.

According to Vospon, the Second Law of Infodynamics can also be used to show that we are living in a simulation.

“A highly complex universe like ours, if it were a simulation, would require built-in data compression and optimization to reduce the computational and storage requirements for running the simulation,” Vopson wrote in Talk“This is exactly what we observe all around us, including in digital data, biological systems, mathematical symmetries, and throughout the Universe.”

Despite the originality of Vopson’s proposal, the theory still needs further testing before it can be seriously considered. The scientific community is divided: studies support and refute the idea that we are living in a digital simulation. (YO)
