The film adaptation stars Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson and Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase.
Unfortunately, the film and its sequel did not find much support among audiences and critics around the world. One of the reasons the narrative didn’t sit well with fans was because it didn’t follow certain important aspects of the novels. A key flaw involving the friendship and romance between Lerman’s Percy and Daddario’s Annabeth stuck out like a sore thumb.

Besides the interesting combination of old and new concepts, Percy Jackson The novels impressed young people with the wonderful development of the relationship between the two main characters, played by Alexandra Daddario and Logan Lerman. Although the two stars had good chemistry as Annabeth and Percy, fans were critical of the way their romance blossomed on screen.
In the novels, Percy and Annabeth begin their relationship as friends who also annoy and argue with each other since they were 12 years old. Gradually, their friendship organically turns into romance as they mature throughout the novels. However, the films did not adhere to this schedule.
First, by using older actors such as Daddario and Lerman, the script changed their ages from 12 to 16 years old. However, the biggest mistake that viewers were unhappy with was the hurtful romance that arose between the two characters. Thus, it didn’t give the audience the opportunity to see the relationship grow from friendship to love, something that Riordan showed so well in the books.

“Of course, there will always be people who think something should be this or that, so you just have to go with good intentions and try to breathe life into the character.”
Daddario went on to state that the children were ideal fans due to their open-minded nature and genuine love for the characters they read about. This, in turn, allowed them to welcome her with open arms.
