Farewell, Nesteya? Coca Cola will stop distributing the drink in Spain and will focus on its substitute Fuze Tea.

If nothing changes, the days of the famous tea soft drink Nestea in Spanish supermarkets are numbered after 30 years of existence. Coca Cola and Nestlé are finalizing the agreement that created the popular drink on December 31, and while Nestlé could in principle continue to distribute it, the emerging scenario for Nestea is much more complex.

The agreement is ending and there is no possibility of its renewal, since the decision was made in 2017. In addition, Coca Cola has already announced its replacement – Fuze Tea. Both brands will coexist on store shelves until the end of the year.

Coca Cola has planned a very gradual but powerful landing and expansion of the brand. According to Nielsen data provided by the multinational, the ready-to-drink tea beverage category has grown by 6.3% over the past five years. Its value is expected to double by 2030, according to the consulting firm. Coca Cola itself claims that this is one of the company’s brands whose share in value is growing the most in the world.

Fuze Tea Sabor Original “has already started arriving in the market since September and will continue to be released in a staggered manner until the entire area is completed in the coming weeks,” the company said. Coca-Cola Spain’s goal is to have Fuze Tea Sabor Original in more than 225,000 retail outlets by the end of the year. From here, new low-calorie, sugar-free varieties will be launched, as well as other flavors such as green tea-passion fruit or mango-pineapple.

Carlos Martin, CEO of Coca-Cola Iberia, said on the occasion of the launch that they are confident that “Fuze Tea will be as successful in Spain as in the other 90 countries in which it is present. The launch of Fuze Tea Sabor Original expands the global reach of the brand in our market and allows us to reach new consumption moments and promote a category that matters.”
