FC Barcelona | Anxiety with De Jong: touched and limping
The match between Real Sociedad and Barca in La Liga 2024/25 was as difficult as expected and the Blaugrana side were defeated, as they have done several times, by Imanol Alguacil’s side. Especially in the first half, Imanol Alguacil’s men were very brave and pushed Barça to the limit with their intensity, putting pressure on Barça’s every move.
To make matters worse, Hansi Flick received bad news about Frenkie de Jong’s physical problems. The Dutch midfielder’s first setback came in the 25th minute, when he was hit while fighting for the ball and noticed initial discomfort in his leg.
Despite everything, after a couple of minutes he was able to return to the field. Already in the final segment of the first period, around the 39th minute, he was injured again, this time in his ankle. although he did not leave the field until half-time.
De Jong had to be replaced at half-time by Dani Olmo, and He was seriously shaken up in the locker room and cried over the possibility of another injury.with all that it will mean for a player who has not yet found his rhythm and his best version precisely because of the physical problems that he has suffered from in recent months. At the end of the match it was clear that the player was limping, so things were not going well for him.
The Dutchman also returned to the national team led by Ronald Koeman. He last played for the Netherlands on September 10, 2023, more than a year ago, in a 1-2 win over Ireland. If the injury is finally confirmed, De Jong will miss the call again and, depending on the diagnosis, a few more games with Barça.
After suffering an injury against Real Madrid on April 21, Frenkie De Jong returned to Barça last month, always featuring for a few minutes in the second half of October matches. He went even further this week and Flick gave him a start against Red Star, playing 68 minutes in Barca’s convincing win. After the Champions League match, the midfielder reprized his starting role against Real Sociedad, but a possible injury could undermine his hopes of continuity in the German manager’s team.
