Flu and Covid vaccinations will begin next Monday, the 21st, and will last until December 20th.
This year, as a major innovation, preschool teachers and kindergarten teachers are included in the group of vulnerable groups who are recommended to be vaccinated with this vaccine, in addition to people over 60 years of age, pregnant women and medical personnel.
Campaign vaccination against influenza and covid-19 will officially begin next Monday, October 21st at Melilla and will last until December 20 with the aim of “preventing” these respiratory infections, as the Minister of Health announced this Friday at a press conference, Randa Mohamed.
Among the vulnerable and susceptible populations in need of influenza vaccination, Mohamed identified as the main innovation teachers of preschool education centers and kindergartensin addition to people aged 60 years and older, pregnant women, medical personnel, special government services such as State Security Forces and Corps (FyCSE)with chronic diseases and, of “special mention,” children six to 59 months and 24 to 59 months with the intranasal vaccine.
“We particularly emphasize influenza vaccination for children aged 6 to 59 months due to the high number of hospitalizations, doctor visits and antibiotic use in this population,” he said, adding that for infants and children aged 24 to 59 months, a jab-free intranasal influenza vaccine is available.
Vaccination center
The head of the health authority said that the autonomous city has purchased almost 14,000 doses of three different types for about 150,000 euros: the quadrivalent drug Vaxigrip, the adjuvant quadrivalent drug and the intranasal drug for children, which will be distributed as follows vaccination centers: Melilla Medical Center, Pharmacy Service of the Regional Hospital, Military Clinic, Penitentiary Center, Help Center, Functional Health Zone of the Government Delegation, National and Local Police, Firefighters, Civil Guard, Center for Temporary Stay for Immigrants (CETI), Rusadir Clinic and others.
