From designer clothes to “modest” sneakers: how Emma Coronel’s life in prison changed

Coronel Aispuro met “El Chapo” when she was only 17 years old and had just been crowned queen of the Coffee and Guava Festival in Canelas, Durango. Then his life changed completely.

Coronel left a record of his lifestyle on social networks, where he shared all the comforts and luxuries with which he lived.

The 33-year-old woman is also remembered for appearing wearing Cartier jewelery and watches, garments from the luxurious brands Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Dolce&Gabanna, during the hearings of the Chapo trial, to which she sometimes appeared accompanied by her two daughters and bodyguards who took care of her at all times.

In addition, for his business, he did not hesitate to exploit the image of the drug trafficker. It is known that the co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel gave him the rights to the name “El Chapo” and he planned to dedicate himself to fashion design to exploit the brand.

On November 30, 2021, she was sentenced by a Washington court to three years in prison for crimes of drug trafficking and money laundering linked to the Sinaloa Cartel. Emma Coronel pleaded guilty to collaborating with her husband.

The former beauty queen admitted having worked as a link between “El Chapo” and the Sinaloa Cartel when he was imprisoned in the maximum security prison of “El Altiplano”. In fact, the information that Coronel provided helped “El Chapo” successfully achieve the most spectacular of his escapes through a 1.5-kilometer bridge that connected the bathroom of his cell with a half-built house on the outskirts of the prison. .
