From Shakira to Pharrel Williams, the possible artists to appear on Ed Sheeran’s next album – Music
Some people make plans for after the party, Ed Sheeran makes plans for after life. The singer has told Rolling Stone that he has already started working on his latest album. Although their next release of May 5 – (Subtract) will close the cycle of five mathematical-themed studio albums, Sheeran said he has lined up his next five pitches, as well as a posthumous collection that will be constantly updated during his lifetime.
The singer also revealed that while working with his friend Aaron Dessner from The National, a recent Taylor Swift collaborator, in ‘Subtract’, the duo produced enough material for another album. After picking 14 tracks for the final Math album, Sheeran said he put out another three that he felt “too cheerful” after realizing that they felt like the beginning of a different musical journey.
Plus, Sheeran is already planning what that next album will sound like. After initiating a collaboration with National musician/producer Aaron Dessner (of folklore and evermore fame) on ‘Subtract’, Sheeran said he has another album of Dessner’s music. Rolling Stone compares one of those songs, a potential single, to Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel, and another with bruce springsteen (Aptly, that one is called “England”).
Sheeran has also reportedly finished a collaborative album with reggaeton star J. Balvin, and collaborations with Daddy Yankee, Burna Boy, Pharrell and Shakira. (with whom he has also been writing separately, for his new album). Beyond that, prolific collaborator Sheeran has written with everyone, from EDM giant David Guetta to the now-defunct bro-country duo Florida Georgia Line. He has also been working with British rapper Devlin, producer Benny Blanco and their friend Justin Bieber for their new album. Sheeran will release his new single, “Eyes Closed”, on Friday (March 24), which Rolling Stone describes as built “around a pizzicato riff that grows into an octave chorus as big as anything in Sheeran’s catalog”.
About his docuseries
The artist will open the curtain on his path to stardom, his personal life and his musical inspiration in the upcoming Disney+ docuseries ‘Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All’. The four-part series, which will premiere worldwide on May 3, tells the story of “how a stuttering boy rose to fame to become one of the biggest superstars in world music and how his hits were born”.
The Disney+ original series will feature exclusive content from Sheeran’s personal archive, interviews with loved ones and intimate performances. “I have always been very reserved in my personal and private life; the only documentary I have made has been one focused on the composition of my songs”Sheeran said in a press release. “Disney approached me about doing a four-part documentary, and I felt that it was the right time to open the door and let people in. I hope people enjoy it.”
