The current champion, Ecuador, beat Bolivia 1-0 this Sunday for the second date of Group B of the 2023 South American U-20, which is played in Colombia.
Those led by Jimmy Bran Orozco prevailed with a header from Ecuadorian captain Garis Mina in the 79th minute in a game played at the almost empty Estadio Deportivo Cali in the city of Palmira (southwest).
In one of La Tri’s clearest options, Patrik Mercado finished off on goal but without enough power to clear Bruno Poveda’s hands.
Also in the first half, Ecuadorian Alan Minda recovered the ball after an error by the rival defense, but shot wide of the goal.
On the other side, the Bolivians wasted a golden opportunity after an hour of play. Yomar Rocha fired from point-blank range but the ball bounced off the hands of Ecuadorian goalkeeper Gilmar Napa. Lucas Chávez took the rebound and finished off over the goal.
The second day of Group B culminated with the second-hour clash between Chile and Uruguay.
With the victory, Ecuador was the leader of the key with four points, after drawing with Chile 1-1 in its debut. Bolivia had achieved a 1-0 victory against Venezuela in its debut and with the defeat this Sunday it is in second position with three units. (D)
