Girl Ray brings out her funkiest side on ‘Everybody’s Saying That’

January has done honors to its fame and it is indisputable that it has not been an easy month for anyone. Luckily, the endearing London trio Girl Ray they inaugurate the beginning of February with one of those songs that make you dance immediately, and therefore, help you better cope with the slopes and bad weather.
To the beat of disco and funky rhythm, we warm up with Everybody’s Saying Thatthe first original theme that the group composed of Poppy Hankin, Iris McConnell Y Sophie Moss have been published since 2021, the year in which they gave us that Give Me Your Love produced by Joe Goddard (Hot Chip).
Later we would see them flirt with disco music, making use of national references such as that very personal version of the hit by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Murder On The Dancefloorbut now the British trio is the one who starts composing their own melodies under the reflections of the silver ball: “The lyrics of this theme are inspired by the simplicity straight to the heart of the great names of disco musicPoppy explains. “I wrote it while on tour in 2020, in one of those moments when I was missing my partner, so the song once again covers themes of love and doubt. Musically, we took cues from the nu-disco revival that seemed to be taking off in 2020, particularly artists like Kylie Minogue’s ‘Disco’, ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’ by Jessie Ware, the ‘Future Nostalgia’ by Dua Lipa or the ‘Máquina Róisín’ by Róisín Murphy. We feel really inspired by all these women who reinvented disco music.“
About the video clip, Poppy adds that: “We met Alice, the director, while we were all working in a coffee truck on film sets during the pandemic. Alice is the special kind of person you can totally trust and know that she’s going to do something amazing, so when she agreed to direct our video we were beyond excited. We wanted the video to have a special emphasis on atmosphere, which Alice did beautifully. Lyrically, the song is about longing, and even though it was filmed in Slough, the video has pure Hollywood vibes thanks to an extremely talented cast and crew, and the countless favors Alice managed to garner.“
