Golden Lap, the management game from the creators of the art of Rally, is getting a demo on Steam

Funselektor (Rally art) and Strelka Games have published a Steam demo of Golden Lap.

This minimalist driving game was introduced last March, taking us from the steering wheel to the pits “during the golden era of motorsport.”

The demo will be available starting today, June 6 to June 17, as part of the Steam Next Fest event. It allows us to try out two modes: a quick race (limited to a pre-created team) and a career mode in which we can compete for four main prizes.

The team allowed us to test this demo in advance, in which we have access to a team called “LaBrahn” in McLaren orange at tracks inspired by Barcelona (Twisted), Monaco (Circuit de Casino), Silverstone (Dam Slice) and Monza. (Potenza).

Golden Lap is full of small nods to Formula 1 of the 70s, from the appearance of the drivers to the description of the teams. You can see the great care the team took to capture this era and its features; For example, we can attract sponsors for alcoholic drinks.

The simulation reduces complexity by one point compared to Frontier Developments’ F1 Manager, removing zeros from the accounts and limiting us to hiring four people (two drivers, an engineer and a track manager).

The game places a lot of emphasis on engineering improvements, which we can achieve after a few test laps. Golden Lap shows us what improvement points we have, but the result is never 100% obvious; There are a number of possible improvements, and sometimes it is advisable to take a chance on the flute.

In the race we will have to focus on two main aspects: tire management and petrol management. We will be able to give orders to our two drivers that will change their performance on the track, and see a simulation of when both aspects will be exhausted. The fun is when our drivers meet and we can decide whether to give the teams orders… or let them fight.

It’s not intended to replace F1 Manager, but with its love of competition and lighter offering, it might be just what motorsport fans want to jump right into managing a team without spending too much time on menus.

You can get the Golden Lap demo on Steam until June 17th.

Golden Lap will be released in 2024 on PC.
