Goodbye caries: this cheap liquid prevents them by 80%.
Scientists from New York University conducted a four-year study in which they took part 4,000 school-age childrenthe result of which shows that Silver diamine fluoride (ESDF) prevents tooth decay and prevents the deterioration of existing ones, as published in a scientific journal JAMA Pediatrics.
Approved by the US Drug Administration for the treatment of dental sensitivity. ESDF is applied by brush.kills bacteria that cause caries and remineralizes teeth.
Richard NiedermanPh.D., a professor of epidemiology at New York University and lead author of the study, says, “SDF is faster and less expensive to apply than sealants and can prevent and stop tooth decay by reducing the need for drilling and filling.”
According to the researchers, treatment for SDF prevents 80% of caries and prevents worsening of 50% of existing caries two years later.
“SDF is a promising alternative that can help prevent tooth decay in schools, not to replace the dental sealant model, but as another option that also prevents and stops tooth decay,” continues Dr. Ryan Richard Ruff. Moreover, its use would represent a large savings for both families and the health care system.
